Courage Can Be Shown by Everyone
Introduction
“I never had a brain until Freak came along…” (Philbrick, 1). Max thought he was dumb and clumsy. All the time he’d been called as foolish. Stupid. The fact that his body looked to be developing quicker than his mind didn’t help... Max learned how to bear loneliness. At least until Freak came along. Freak was different from others too. He had a tiny body-and a huge brain. Even though they are drastically different, both are essential to each other. Together, Max and Freak were unvanquishable. They were Freak the Mighty. The novel, Freak the Mighty is a heartwarming novel about two best friends, Max and Freak. They go on quests to retrieve the memories of the past

Max shows courage when he was kidnapped by Killer Kane. Max wrote, “I’m just standing there in the middle of the room because I don’t know what he wants me to do,” (Philbrick, 109) Max shows courage because he kept calm at Iggy’s house although he would’ve been frightened.
In spite that Max acted bravely in other parts of the book, I think the most courageous thing that Max did was writing a book. As said in the book, Max was in L.D. (Short for learning disabled) class at school. Also, Max also hints that he is dyslexic. Max wrote, “And R’s never look like backward E’s to Freak, which is the way they look to me sometimes, unless I really squint and think about it,” (Philbrick, 46) In addition, Max noted that he couldn’t write words down on page, 82. However, Max stated, “So I wrote the unvanquished truth stuff down and then kept on going…. And now that I’ve written a book who knows, I might even read a few. No big deal,” (Philbrick, 160). This shows that Max overcame his learning disabilities and succeeded brilliantly at writing a book. To be honest, I wouldn’t be able to write a book as interesting and long as this. Max shows courage because he did something very difficult for him,

Iggy and Loretta At first look, Iggy and Loretta were intimidating gangsters. Unlike my prediction, Iggy and Loretta show great bravery. When Max is tied up to ropes trapped by Killer Kane, Loretta comes and helps. She says, “The plan is, Iggy keeps him busy while I get your loose, now isn’t that a good plan? There’s enough cops up there to start a war, we’ll be safe enough we get out of this godforsaken place,” (Philbrick, 126). Iggy and Loretta show courage by doing the right thing despite it was dangerous. Iggy and Loretta’s actions show that courage can be showed by everyone, even gangsters. To Wrap it Up The novel Freak the Mighty teaches us a lifelong lesson that courage can be shown by anyone no matter who he/she is. Freak, Max, Iggy, and Loretta are some individuals that you wouldn’t expect to see courage from. Freak with physical limitations, Max with learning disabilities, and Iggy and Loretta who are gangsters show courage in different sizes and ways. Courage is a lacking aspect of modern society. Many people are self centered and greedy. This novel is different and special for it being a book about courage shown by people in a somewhat hard situation. Reflecting at myself, I’m sure I have shown less courage than any character in the book. I am sure that everybody would feel the same. I’ll finish this essay with a quote from Aristotle. “You will never do anything
One way Tom shows courage is when he agrees to enter the Ewell’s house. Back when this novel took place (1930s) for a black person was dangerous without a white man’s word. Tom wanted to help Mayella out but instead Mayella started kissing him and Tom tried to run. “....I said Miss Mayella, let me outta, here an’ tried to run.”( Lee,194) This shows that Tom was trying to escape
The book Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick is about two boys named Kevin and Max. Neither one of these boys are exactly normal, “freak” (a.k.a Kevin) is physically handicapped and was diagnosed with Morquio Syndrome. Freak is abnormally short but extremely smart. On the other hand, we have Max. Max is extremely tall, but he has LD (Learning Disorder) where he has trouble with reading and writing. Max describes himself as a “butthead” where he says “I never really had a brain until Freak came along”. Having a good friendship means learning more each day, helping one another out and fighting for each other.
‘We request assistance.’” (38-39) He ended up signaling the officers and they were saved. Max has a different kind of personality, kind of shy, scared, and thinks he is not a smart person. He has a different approach to bullying.
Max on the other hand saw his own father choke his mother to death. Max and Freak are also very different with the ways that they deal with problems and more. Freak looks past his disability and tries to enjoy life to the fullest, but Max lets his disability get in his way. Max keeps saying that he is stupid or dumb and that he cant do anything.
Courage is important because if you’re not courageous you will not explore new things, get new experiences. An example of courage happens in the first couple of pages when Jasper and Charlie go out to explore late at night into the forest. If they haven’t gone out there they would’ve never found the body
In the book " Maniac Magee" Maniac/Jeffrey shows courage by being friends with a boy that was originally been mean. In the beginning of the book Mars Bar ripped Amanda's book and pushed Jeffry around, but by the end of the story Mars Bar cares about Jeffry and makes him go live at Amanda's house. Jeffry is also courageous by going intoFinsterwaldd's backyard to save someone and even sat on the front steps toFinsterwaldd's house. These acts are courageous because Mars Bar was not nice, andFinsterwaldd's front step and backyard are scary to the other kids.
This quote talks about how courage involves taking risks especially in new situations. Laurie Halse Anderson had the same idea as Walt Disney in the book Speak. The characters she put in the book that showed courage had the take a lot of risks in new situations. In the book Speak Melinda Sordino, shows courage, by taking risks in the situations she were presented.
Courage is something that you do without being afraid of the conquise and standing up. Throughout the book Roll of Thunder hear my Cry, by Mildred Taylor. I will be talking about about a boy named Stacey. Stacey show’s courage in this book, he blames himself for papa getting hurt. Stacey also showed courage by helping a boy named T.J get home even though if he gets caught with him and got hung. Stacey help’s T.J even at the wrong time but it is the thought that counts. So this is how Stacey shows courage.
This shows courage because they could've just forgot about it and not say anything but instead they went and found out what happened. They couldn't tell the cops because they thought they would get blamed so they went out and found out what really happened it led them to find out that her dad beat her so she committed suicide. They found out that Mad Jack Lionel isn't a bad person. Jasper show courage again when he was investigating the what they thought was murder he went into the lawn of Mad Jack Lionel which at the time he didn't know that he wasn't bad. He went their thinking something bad could happen just to find out what happened to her. Because he wanted to know what happened so bad that he was willing to risk his own. The final person who shows courage is Jeffery, Jeffery went and played cricket and it was his first game he wasn't really popular and he was short and smart so people underestimated him he went up and ended up winning the game for his team. He was facing the best team and he managed to get the points he needed to come back and win. This shows courage because he went up there and no one thought he could do it and he didn't let that bother him. The odds were completely against him and he went
It is important to be courageous to show people the true braver and how far people will go for something. In the book Jasper Jones. Charlie and his friends had several courageous acts. One these courageous acts that stood out to me the most was when Charlie decided to help jasper so he wouldn’t get into trouble. This is courageous because it shows the risk that Charlie is willing to take for someone he doesn’t even know.
"to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun
Courage can be something that is hard to achieve. Not only do you have to be brave, but also willing to take the risk even when you are scared. Jasper Jones has many characters who show courage, but also characters who could have been courageous and changed the whole plot. Courage can save someone’s life, and the lack of it could cause totally different endings in life as if someone did something that they may not have done without having courage, when someone may have lack of courage causing them not to do something, or when someone may decide to use courage to save a life.
Courage is not always easy but could sometimes cause sacrifice. In the book Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry by Mildred D. Taylor. For my courageous character i choose the very important Stacy Logan. He is a segregated 12 year old boy in 7th grade with very brown hair and wide eyes that you can tell from anywhere. Stacy's makes very courageous and strong choices made him look like her cared for what he wanted and cared for his family.. He has done many courageous acts like stopping the bus from getting himself and his brothers and sisters including his really good friend from a very long friendship T.J., sometimes Stacey and T.J. have their ups and downs the one incident Stacey has to get on to T.J. for cheating on the big exam in their class
The general statement made by The Wachowskis in their movie The Matrix is that having courage is an important quality in life because it helps when people are faced with tough decisions. More specifically in the scene when Neo fought all three agents by himself he was being courageous by just acting instead of thinking what might happen to him.
For instance, the passage states, “The next day I arrived at school twenty minutes early and did what needed to be done.” In other words, this shows Ava is courageous because even though the coach and the boys are rude to her, she is sticking up for herself, and telling the teachers what is going on. This is very courageous because the boys could come back at her. Along with this, another way Ava is courageous is when she talks to Lindsay about the track team. This shows courage because since the boys were mean to her, and she hadn’t talked to anyone about track, it could have been scary to talk about the track team and confide in someone. But Ava talked about it anyhow, and that shows a lot of courage. In addition, the passage also states that the boys were asking if Ava was dead, and then when she replied, they said,”I thought we’d get lucky.” This represents the claim because she had to not cry and show courage because otherwise, they would then be mean to her even more. In conclusion, the theme of courage shows up a lot throughout the story Don’t Give Up The
