The general statement made by The Wachowskis in their movie The Matrix is that having courage is an important quality in life because it helps when people are faced with tough decisions. More specifically in the scene when Neo fought all three agents by himself he was being courageous by just acting instead of thinking what might happen to him.
The main character Thomas Anderson also known as Neo is not a very courageous person before he enters the matrix. Neo definitely is a courageous person but he was not always a courageous person; Neo was less courageous in the beginning of the film for example in the film when Neo and Morpheus were running on building tops and jumping across Morpheus jumped with no problem but Neo second guessed

During the scene he was being chased by the agents Neo said “This is insane no way i’m doing this” During the middle of the film Neo seen a woman but was not courageous enough to talk to her until Mouse offered to change the code for him and from then on he was called the “digital pimp”. Neo eventually does gain more courage for example near the end of the film Neo gains the courage to fight on an agent by himself without any way of getting help because agent Smith shot the phone which was the only way for the others to get to Neo. Neo doubted himself throughout the film which made himself less courageous and not able to reach his full potential and unable to realize that he is the one. Neo has the ability to do everything that the agents can do and do it better so this helps him gain courage knowing that he can do
Courage is important because if you’re not courageous you will not explore new things, get new experiences. An example of courage happens in the first couple of pages when Jasper and Charlie go out to explore late at night into the forest. If they haven’t gone out there they would’ve never found the body
Assertion :The Odyssey and The Princess Bride, courage is knowing the odds are against you and moving forward anyway. Evidence: The princess Bride courage quote– “IT WAS NOT, in point of fact, her Westley that was causing the commotion out front. Westley was doing all he could to simply walk straight down the incline toward the main gate without help. Ahead of him, Inigo struggled with the heavy wheelbarrow.
One good example of courage is in Homer's epic poem, “The Odyssey,” when Odysseus enters the Cyclops’ cave. In the epic poem Odysseus and his men enter the Cyclops cave and the text states “We climbed, then, briskly to the cave. But Cyclops had gone afield..." (Homer 157-158). This example demonstrates that Odysseus enters a Cyclops cave and is not fearful. Odysseus enters the cave because he sees treasure and wants to get it for him and his crew. Odysseus chooses to enter the cave even though he knew the cave was the Cyclops home and this demonstrates courage, and this is why the trait should be encouraged. Another good example of courage that sticks out is Newton Knight, who chooses to help slaves even though he lives in the south during the Civil War. In the Biography.com Editors’s article, “Newton Knight,” Knight chooses to stop fighting for the Confederate Army and goes back to his hometown to help slaves, as the text states “They saw themselves as defending the residents of Jones County from the Confederacy” (Biography.com Editors 1). Therefore, this example demonstrates that Knight chooses to fight against the Confederate Army even though he lives in Mississippi. It takes a lot of courage to go up against the Confederate Army even though he lived in the south and almost everyone was against him. It should
The definition of courage is “The ability to do something that frightens one”. Courage is important because it helps you get through hard times, or times where you need strength. In the book, Masterminds, two of the main characters face many challenges. Tori and Eli had to be courageous to help them discover the truth about their town and escape with the others. Tori and Eli have to take out barriers keeping them in their town and climb walls to find out what’s happening in their town. While doing all this, they all had to keep it a secret. That might have been the hardest thing they could do. Based on evidence I found in the book, Eli and Tori have to be courageous at many times, but all different from each other
Courage is not facing a problem without any fear. Courage is facing an obstacle despite their fear. Standing up for what they believe in, even though there will be negative consequences. That is true courage. The book “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee does a great job of showing this.
We have been asked why is it important to be courageous? In reality there are many reasons, but only few I can explain. We have to be courageous so we can try new things, do something different, or get out of our comfort zone.
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear” (Nelson Mandela).Nelson Mandela inspired many people through his fearless acts of courage. However, Nelson Mandela is just one example of a courageous individual. In “Hitler Youth” by Susan Campbell Bartoletti, and Elie Wiesel’s “Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech” both Elie Wiesel and character Sophie Scholl endure situations when courage is needed to survive. Courage is the best way for individuals to respond to conflict.
He shows this courage in a main part of the book. He shows it when he takes the trail of Tom Robinson. He knows he will loose but tries his best to win. These three characters show us how to be courageous in the
True bravery is when you’re aware that the odds are against you, however, you have the ability to persevere through it. Even though you don’t want to complete the task ahead of you, an inner force brings you the motivation to do it. Sincere courageousness doesn’t always entail violence; in fact, courage comes from the choices made within that affect yourself or those around you. The outcome may not always be to your advantage, but
Courage is a trait that has been possessed by a lot of leaders in history, from presidential leaders to civil right leaders, to even athletic coaches, courage is used in every leadership position and is a very important trait when wanting to become a leader. Courage takes a lot of self-work you must be fully committed to your values and what you believe in before you go out and get a career like Job. Frederick Douglas escaped slavery and later became a main leader of the anti-slavery movement through all his published writings. Courageous leaders also make time for their peers and their employees because courageous leaders not only believe in themselves but believe in the team that works for them. Courage is also shown through sports form coaches to players. They are required to sacrifice some of their beliefs so their team can be one unit and work as one. They show courage day in and down out, standing up for what they believe in and their team which speaks volumes within an organization. Courageous leaders seem to be the most effective type of leaders because those types of leaders relate to you or has a common interest. These leaders preach what they believe and stick to it even through tough times when it calls for them to step outside their box.
The storyline of the movie throws audiences immediately into the mystery behind “the matrix” from an objective person’s perspective. Neo, or Mr. Anderson as the evil Agents call him, is searching for an answer to a question he’s looked for all his life. He wants to know “what is the matrix?” Neo later learns from two new mysterious friends that the matrix is “the world pulled over your eyes.” In time,
Nelson Mandela said, “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear” (Brainyquote.com). This means that courage is shown by someone who conquers fear, like how Odysseus in The Odyssey shows courage by facing many obstacles with his crew on their journey back to Ithaca. Odysseus from The Odyssey, by Homer, shows courage throughout his journey. Odysseus is the protagonist from The Odyssey, who was determined to return to Ithaca after the Trojan War.
Courage is an important quality to have, because everyone can’t always be afraid of everything and let their fears hold them back. Sometimes people have to do things that they don’t want to do, or they have to face their fears.
Courage is something humans are not born with, rather a trait that is developed through time. In order to truly be courageous, one must know how to handle the challenges that we get faced with in life and try to get through them. Courage is also about taking risks, taking yourself out of your comfort zone, and making the effort to try and do everything you can. At times this can even mean sacrifice to a certain extent, especially for someone you care for. Mulan is
Courage is as stated in The New International Webster’s Dictionary of the English Language to be “the capacity to meet danger or difficulty with firmness.” In my mind courage has always meant doing what you had to do, and dealing with it because you had to. I never had a choice in my life whether I wanted to move to a different city
