The interesting topic that I find in the first half of the video was “Is the CIO the best BI Executive Sponsor?” Well, CIO (Chief Information Officer) is the one who effectively captures the data and store them as well as they are accountable for the system availability. So, having all these responsibilities, one can generalize that he or she might be the best BI executive sponsor but the reality is completely different. The CIO’s technical orientation leaves them vulnerable to criticism for a lack of business alignment and from the business perspectives, everything thing has to be aligned with the business and whatever is not aligned with business strategy, are supposed to be rejected or vulnerable by the management.
CIO is only central figure, only to those organizations where technology is competitive advantage and in other companies where technology is just an operational strategy, CIO stands in a periphery. Therefore, CIO is not considered as the best BI Executive Sponsor in most of the companies.

Before, I used to think that Vendors and the companies are very closely related and they are working for the benefits of each others. But it really surprised me when Professor mentioned that a Vendor’s job is to maintain a long term relation with their client to maximize their opportunities by creating the unfavorable situation to us (the company). As well as, our (the company) job is maximize our opportunities causing unfavorable situation to the vendors, by using them. By this way, both parties will achieve a parity point which will be favorable for both. This was a completely new angle for me to view things from a different

Similar to Cisco and Tektronix, the previous legacy CRM systems in Cigna were independent of each other and outdated. The CIO was keen to improve the efficiency of the business operation through IT and to consolidate the system plans through developing them internally. Cigna needed to move IT into the turnaround mode in order to meet customer and legal demands. As such, there was a need for an IT governance structure to ensure broad based, multi-level participation by all stakeholders in IT Governance (Rau, 2004), the selected roles and responsibilities within and external to IT & the relationship amongst these components. No such governance council was established in Cigna which would seem to have resulted in all IT related decisions falling onto the shoulders of the CIO without having additional support of other senior managers. In addition, without the IT council being in place, it did not seem to be asked as to whether or not the CIO had the experience to handle such a project. Based on the fact that she was an internal recruit, it is unlikely that she had previous experience as IT lead on such a project. There were unrealistic expectations placed on the IT department by senior management

Interpretation of this information allows the CIO to develop a technology strategy that supports the business’s needs. Next, the CIO needs to be able to communicate progress of his plans. The Chief Information Officer (CIO) has an imperative role in decision making and leadership capabilities, which include developing and implementing Information technology (IT). “The term CIO was introduced by Synnott and Gruber in 1981. Synnott defines CIO as the highest-ranking executives with primary responsibility for information management.” (Moghaddasi, & Sheikhtaheri, 2009) This includes a multitude of roles in improving the effectiveness in both administration and clinical processes. A chief informational officer is a person within the company at the executive level that is responsible for the information technology (IT) policies and the computer systems that support the business objectives and goals (Whitman & Mattord, 2014). The CIO should be increasingly concentrated on strategies and planning and fewer efforts on maintaining first line management duties for control over computer procedures and processes (Grover, Seung-Ryul, Kettinger & Lee, 1993). They are less involved with the conception of new products or services, nevertheless, they inspire the usage of information technology for improvements.
