The interesting topic that I find in the first half of the video was “Is the CIO the best BI Executive Sponsor?” Well, CIO (Chief Information Officer) is the one who effectively captures the data and store them as well as they are accountable for the system availability. So, having all these responsibilities, one can generalize that he or she might be the best BI executive sponsor but the reality is completely different. The CIO’s technical orientation leaves them vulnerable to criticism for a lack of business alignment and from the business perspectives, everything thing has to be aligned with the business and whatever is not aligned with business strategy, are supposed to be rejected or vulnerable by the management.
CIO is only central figure, only to those organizations where technology is competitive advantage and in other companies where technology is just an operational strategy, CIO stands in a periphery. Therefore, CIO is not considered as the best BI Executive Sponsor in most of the companies.

Before, I used to think that Vendors and the companies are very closely related and they are working for the benefits of each others. But it really surprised me when Professor mentioned that a Vendor’s job is to maintain a long term relation with their client to maximize their opportunities by creating the unfavorable situation to us (the company). As well as, our (the company) job is maximize our opportunities causing unfavorable situation to the vendors, by using them. By this way, both parties will achieve a parity point which will be favorable for both. This was a completely new angle for me to view things from a different
Outrigger hired a CIO in 1986 when other organizations were still struggling with what the role a CIO could play in its operations. The IT in Outrigger understands its importance in building a competitive advantage and has played a huge role in Outrigger’s success till date.
Its organization would face difficulties to interact and analyze data outside of the silos and create critical insight for decision-making. The IT infrastructure and the organization architecture cannot identify excellence business initiatives to drive the BI project across the organization. Prioritizing or choose a BI project to be implemented is based on the level of commitment from
Similar to Cisco and Tektronix, the previous legacy CRM systems in Cigna were independent of each other and outdated. The CIO was keen to improve the efficiency of the business operation through IT and to consolidate the system plans through developing them internally. Cigna needed to move IT into the turnaround mode in order to meet customer and legal demands. As such, there was a need for an IT governance structure to ensure broad based, multi-level participation by all stakeholders in IT Governance (Rau, 2004), the selected roles and responsibilities within and external to IT & the relationship amongst these components. No such governance council was established in Cigna which would seem to have resulted in all IT related decisions falling onto the shoulders of the CIO without having additional support of other senior managers. In addition, without the IT council being in place, it did not seem to be asked as to whether or not the CIO had the experience to handle such a project. Based on the fact that she was an internal recruit, it is unlikely that she had previous experience as IT lead on such a project. There were unrealistic expectations placed on the IT department by senior management
In this way, competitive use of IT will no longer happen and each specified IT groups can be more concentrated on specified tasks which improves the efficiency, what’s more, the alignment between BU-CIO and EVP facilitate the formation of visioning network, which is vital to IT governance. Thus IT resources and priority are well managed.
Suppliers who want the business to continue to buy their products. The supplier wants to make profit.
The CIO role in the company needs to be clearly identified along with accountabilities and objectives for him and his organization, including preventing security breaches.
Sharing their customers with developing their products build a strong and long relationship between them, and that’s an long term adaptive to the future market where the customers are more involved and they value their services over the prices.
Additionally, the information regarding CIOS changing with some measure of ordinariness exhibits that a feasible CIO has not been put set up, it has all the earmarks of being as they are all things considered exorbitantly particular and not able to see the timberland through the tress the degree that taking apart with the business. Though the structure themself is a limitation of IT, the way that persons who are both IT and commercial cunning have not remained put into executive positions is a decreasing level of the business adjacent of association. The article by Chandler (2015) “The Business Intelligence and Analytics Leader 's First 100 Days” hit a cord with me after a talk with a friend of mine who was just added to the BI team at his company. The new BI director at my friend’s company could have used this article to help him with his new role of BI director. My friend’s boss came in with prebaked ideas and thought he knew what the company needed from the BI department, but after 380 days the department is still feeling its way around in the dark.
