Many religious groups believed the virus was an evil that had fallen on the land and that only God can save them. Others caught the disease due to the lack of sanitary prevention, such as there being no inspections in the trading ports. Also many people were ignorant and knowledgeable about the pandemic because of the lack of response from health/government officials. In all, the lack of authority was a huge contributing factor to the spread of the influenza virus.
