Analysis Of Sunset Towers: The Main Setting Of The Westing Game

In the book Sunset Towers was a beautiful apartment building on the shore of Lake Michigan. With the Westing mansion up on a hill. The book was about 16 heirs trying to find the murderer of Sam Westing. The movie was centered around one heir named Turtle and there were 10 of 16 heirs. Sunset Towers was a bad place to live downtown. Those were the storylines of both versions of the story.

In The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin, Turtle Wexler ultimately experienced a gigantic change in character, she matured. Some argue other characters underwent more important experiences, but Turtle also went through an important change. In the beginning of the game, signed the receipt as, “TURTLE WEXLER, witch,” (Raskin 39). Turtle signed the receipt in a childish way. She signed the receipt using her nickname, Turtle and witch, her Halloween costume. When Turtle signed for the last time, she signed as, “TURTLE WEXLER, financier,” (Raskin 169). This is since the author made the book have many moments that would make you wanna find out what happen next in the book. This book was about many characters. The main thing about this is that they live inside the Sunset Towers. All of these people are heirs. Mr. Hoo lived there and he was important since he owned a restaurant on the fifth floor.

In Devil in the White City, by Erik Larson utilizes the idea of a “devil” during a time of when Chicago was prospering to showcase the evil lurking behind the mirage of wealth and beauty. The speaker is a third person omniscient narrator who has known about Burnham and Holmes life Chicago in the late-nineteenth century. The audience is intended for readers who enjoy non-fiction thriller novels or wants to know about the historical event from different viewpoints. The purpose is to entertain the audience but also teach them about the coexistence and balance of “good” and “evil” in one city. The subject is about Chicago during the Columbian Exposition, focusing on the juxtaposition of the lives of Burnham and Holmes. The tone shifts throughout the novel between every other chapter when there is a change in character since they have different thoughts and settings. Larson uses this to emphasize the universal themes of harmonization of polar opposites. He contrasts the two demeanors of Chicago, the white city was Burnham’s fair, also known a dream land. On the other hand, the black city is Holmes’ house of terror.

The main characters in the book are Sam Westing, Madame Sun Lin Hoo, Jake Wexler, Turtle Wexler, Flora Baumbauch, Chris Theodorakis, D. Denton Deere, Alexander McSouthers, J.J. Ford, Grace Wexler, James Shin Hoo, Berthe Erica Crow, Julian R. Eastman, Amber Otis, Theo Theodorakis, Doug Hoo, Sydelle Pulaski, Barney Northrup, and Angela Wexler. My favorite character is Angela because she is really pretty and is a great friend to Sydelle when she fractures her ankle. The story takes place at Sunset Towers.

During his critique, John says that “Larson is a talented writer with… an admirable impulse to show and not tell. I agree with what he says, Larson does indeed mostly show us what is happening using vivid imagery, so much so that many readers can feel that they are there. At the beginning of the story, she was rude, but at the end she was kind and trustworthy and this showed through her choices, actions, and dialogue. What I have learned is that change is possible if you try.

The story I’ll Give You The Sun is about two fraternal twins, Noah and his sister Jude, who, at the start of the story, are extremely close.
