Someone once said, “You can’t change people, either accept who they are or start living life without them.” This relates to the Westing Game by Ellen Raskin, because in the book, one of the main characters, Turtle, changed throughout the story. At the beginning of the story, she was rude, but at the end she was kind and trustworthy and this showed through her choices, actions, and dialogue. What I have learned is that change is possible if you try. According to the chapters in the beginning of the book, The Westing Game, Turtle is rude; and this rudeness is demonstrated through Turtle’s actions as well as her dialogue. One of Turtle’s pieces of dialogue is that she takes the spotlight off of her sister when she is getting fitted for her wedding dress. On page 12, the text explicitly states, “‘Mrs. Baumbach, could you hem my witches costume? I need it for tonight.’ Mrs. Wexler answered. ‘Can’t you see …show more content…
A piece of dialogue that shows that Turtle Wexler is trustworthy is, on page 67, it states, “‘My lips are sealed.’” This dialogue shows that Turtle can keep a secret. A choice that Turtle made that shows she is trustworthy is when she figures out who the bomber is, but doesn’t say it because she doesn’t want the bomber to get in trouble. To support this, on page 155, the author states, “She was protecting someone. She had set off the fireworks in the elevator to divert suspicion from the real bomber.” This evidence shows that Turtle was trustworthy because she kept the secret of her not being the real bomber. The last choice that Turtle made that showed that she is trustworthy was when she figured out that Sandy McSouthers, Julian Eastman, Barney Northrup, and Sam Westing were all the same person; and she didn’t tell anyone else because Sandy/Julian/Barney/Sam didn’t want her to. This shows that she is reliable because she kept a secret for her friends. That is why Turtle is
Sydelle Pulaski No one really noticed her but they didn’t realize what they were missing out on; Sydelle Pulaski. In the mystery novel The Westing Game written by Ellen Rasken, Sydelle Pulaski is the most endearing character. She adds humor, she shows loyalty, and she was the only one smart enough to take shorthand notes on Sam Westing’s will.
Does change always end in a good or positive way? In the novel Tangerine By Edward Bloor, the character Paul Fisher changes a lot throughout his seventh grade year. As Paul struggles with his vision he is very nervous , unhappy, and is very uneasy. He is a weak pushover that allows his brother, Erik to mercilessly bully him. But soon to come he turned into a confident, nice, and smart person. These changes were primarily motivated by moving to Tangerine Middle School that allows him to grow and understand more.
“Who were these people, these specially selected tenants? They were mothers and fathers and children. A dressmaker, a secretary, an inventor, a doctor, a judge. And, oh yes, one was a bookie, one was a burglar, one was a bomber, and one was a mistake. Barney Northrup had rented one of the apartments to the wrong person.” Sam Westing has set different clues for all eighteen heirs. They are trying to find out who the murderer is. In the novel The Westing Game written by Ellen Raskin, the mystery elements that were used were: main conflict, setting, characterization, and the author’s techniques of giving clues.
The author of this book is Ellen Raskin. This book to me was very attention grabbing. This is since the author made the book have many moments that would make you wanna find out what happen next in the book. This book was about many characters. The main thing about this is that they live inside the Sunset Towers. All of these people are heirs. Mr. Hoo lived there and he was important since he owned a restaurant on the fifth floor.
In the novel Black by Ted Dekker, the main character Thomas changes heavily throughout the story. At the beginning he is very irresponsible and makes bad choices left and right. By the end he has shaped up and has become somewhat a leader throughout all the challenges he faced.
Everybody changes throughout life, either it from being around certain people, having people persuade you into doing something, or by seeing a certain event happen. Everyone goes through a type of change that can make a big difference in their life. I argue that people in the play “Witness” by Karen Hesse can change from being around others because Sara Chickering changed from being around the Hirsh’s, Viola ended up joining the KKK because of her husband pressuring her to, and Merlin by seeing Leanora saving Ester.
The title of the story is called, “The Most Dangerous Game.” The authors name is Richard Connell. A man named Sanger Rainsfold was on a ship and fell overboard into the sea. He swims to a Caribbean island that he saw. The island was owned by a man named General Zaroff who is a hunter, he admires it so much he plays a game which causes life or death for people who come to his island. Zaroff greets Rainsfold and tells him more about himself and how this game works. Zaroff offers Rainsfold a place to stay and dinner for Rainsfold prepare himself for the most dangerous game. It’s the morning, the game starts and Rainsfold is giving some time to adjust and run away from the General. With the experience that Rainsfold has, he sets up a Malay man
In every story, there are many things to analyze. In “Game” by Donald Barthelme, he shows us the way our minds start to work in stressful situations like how the narrator and Shotwell started to respond while controlling the console for the war. In “Game” the narrator’s name is never told, Shotwell and the narrator do not trust each other, but are left alone together and trusted to kill the other if they start to “behave strangely,” although it is never clarified what counts as strange and what counts as normal. Various literary devices are used throughout the story to show us Barthelme’s intended theme, some used are: repetition, symbolism, irony, and figurative language.
After reading The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin, Turtle is a dynamic character. At the beginning of the book, the character is neglected; eventually, the character becomes genuine and Kind Hearted. These character traits were observed through Turtle's actions, dialogue, relationships, choices, and problems. Turtle towards the middle and the end of the book is nice. This connects to my life because Turtle is very nice like my two little sisters.
After reading The Dangerous Game excerpt in the textbook and viewing the motion picture of the story, I came to the conclusion that the story is better than the movie. I say this because the book version of the story did a great job at build up suspense and not straying from the plot of the story. The author, Richard Connell, used vivid wording throughout the story to describe moments that would have been plainly imagined in a reader’s head. For example, instead of saying Rainsford fell off his yacht, the story says, “… he had reached too far and lost his balance. The cry was pinched of was pinched off short as the blood-warm waters of the Caribbean sea closed over his head.” Descriptions like the previous statement allow the readers to come
I have been reading “The Westing Game” and so far in the book I think Sandy killed Sam Westing, I think this because of all of the clues, Sandy is a very suspicious character.
In the game The Oregon Trail, the player tries to make the journey west for gold without their character dying. Just like the game portrays, the trail was a grueling journey to follow a dream. The trail was a game of reality for families moving west. The dream of striking gold and being rich. Women tagged along with their husbands on their journey for gold. The journey was long and difficult, often leading to injuries and death. While on the journey women kept a feminine demeanor even though being faced with many difficulties and having immense responsibilities and constant fear.
“All you can change is yourself, but sometimes that changes everything” said Gary W. Goldstein. Eliza has changed her identity and it changed herself for the better. Do not waste your time changing yourself for someone who would not change for
In the short story The Most Dangerous Game, by Richard Connell, the protagonist Sanger Rainsford was successful at surviving being hunted, by the antagonist General Zaroff, by making a malay mancatcher. He also was successful by making a trap he learned while he was in Uganda. When Rainsford jumped off the cliff into the channel, he evaded General Zaroff and his hounds, making the hunt an exciting adventure.
Can someone who seems selfish change for the better? Jane Austen says they can. In her novel Emma, she describes the social and romantic ventures of the titular heroine. Full of entertaining misunderstandings, the story can be passed off as a simple romantic comedy, and yet a complex and dynamic character can be found in the main protagonist, Emma Woodhouse. Over the course of the book, Emma changes significantly, eventually developing into a more responsible and mature young woman. These changes can be seen in the beginning of the book, when Emma is portrayed as spoiled and self-deluded; towards the middle, when she starts to become more aware of herself and the people around her; and at the end, when she comes to a clearer self-understanding
