Epa's Role In Protecting The Environment

Our world is wasting valuable resources left and right, as addressed in both essays “Waste Not, Want Not”” by Bill McKibbens, and “Forget Shorter Showers” by Derrick Jensen. In “Waste Not, Want Not”” Bill McKibbens focuses on the importance of preserving our recourses. He mentions how wasteful the human race is, and how un-necessary all of the things that cause waste really are. In “Forget Shorter Showers” Derrick Jensen leans more towards the idea that no matter what humans do, they are incapable of wining. Either they lose their opportunity for economical and intellectual growth, or they lose their precious recourses and clean world. Both writers realize that we are wasting recourses, and believe that change is necessary for advancement. While the writers may have similar views, they have different ideas on how to solve the issue, and use different methods of communicating their ideas.

When the environment is disturbed, people are greatly affected, and this can cause serious damage to human and living beings. The proper utilization of these resources helps to control environmental pollution and can help for establishing clean and healthy environment. I will work with this committee to conserve the environment in the state of Texas and in the whole country.

Over the past decade a concern for protecting and preserving the environment has developed amongst United States citizens. Citizens have been promoting clean air, clean water, and clean land. Clean air means protecting the public from airborne contaminants known to be hazardous to human health. The Clean Air Act of 1970 is a law designed to control air pollution on a national level. It requires the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop and enforce regulations in order to protect the people (Environmental Protection Agency 2013). Scattered with flowing rivers, lush forests, and everlasting plains, the environment is extraordinary, but is it a place for the government? Since December 2, 1970, the EPA has been restricting the use of our planet and taking our rights away.

The EPA works hand in hand with each state to organize and plan varies types of federal environmental programs. Each state is given the authority to oversee the federal programs as along as they encompass laws and guidelines that are at least as strict as the federal laws that are in place. The EPA has to have constant contact with state officials in order to develop health, agricultural and environmental protocols for any studies that may need improvement to meet the necessary requirements for decreasing toxics or pollution. Even though the state has control over certain aspects of the Clean Air Act they still have to comply with federal laws that are in place regarding any drinking water, storm water, waste water or solid

During the late 1700s, many Americans advocated for social justice, economic empowerment, property rights and environmental protection. Their advocacy created a national phenomenon that empowered government and policymakers to execute policies aimed at solving these problems nationwide. The government again took action to enact numerous laws, some of which became the foundation for modern environmental policy and regulations in the United States. “On the national level, the first federal action to respond to public concerns about air quality was the Clean Air Act of 1955” (Longhurst and Lewis 2010, 39).The implementation of some of these newly created environmental laws began to interfere with state regulations, and as such, they often violated citizen’s property rights. Although such policy oftentimes violates citizen rights, it allows government and policymakers to respond to the growing population and market demand. Infringement on property rights did not just take root in the environmental sector in the 1800s. It started as a result of massive construction, inadequate hazardous waste disposal systems, and overpopulation due to urbanization and economic growth in the nineteenth century. It became clear that uncontrolled pollution, including underwater pollutions, led to the spread of environmental disease, thus affecting human health and safety.

Hunting and hunters are the biggest advocates for conservation. They also provide for the most finical aid of any other organization that says they sponsor the environment and wildlife. (SDGFP)(2). Such organizations are PETA and SEIRRA. These clubs think they help the animals and the environment because they do not kill them, but they actually do more damage. Their goal is to save the animals and keep the woods from being touched. They hardly give any money to the conservation groups. The reason the ecosystems have to use conservation is because we have to much human interaction with the environment, as Roger Holmes touches on in his article. Like in small communities there is a lot more wildlife human interaction because the expanding nation. The PETA and SEIRRA clubs have also done nothing for the growth of the animal populations. The hunters have given new life to many species such as; White-Tailed Deer, Canadian goose, Rocky Mountain Elk, Wild Turkey, Pronghorn Antelope, and many others.

Saving the environment wasn’t always the goal of the government, but in the last couple of years the government has implicated some rules to make the environment better, but some don’t believe that the environment is deteriorating. Even though cleaning the environment was a major initiative in the 1970’a recently the government hasn’t done much to improve the environment. In the article “How the U.S. Protects the Environment, From Nixon to Trump” by Robinson Myers, the author talks about what President Nixon has done for the environment and the laws he has enforced to make the environment more efficient. Also, the article discusses how the EPA plays a role in helping the environment and if the laws have helped the environment. Richard Nixon

On April 22,1970, 20 million Americans took to the streets, parks, and auditoriums to protest for a healthy, sustainable environment through massive rallies. Thousands of colleges and universities organized many protests against the deterioration of the environment. Groups have been fighting against oil spills, polluting factories, power plants, raw sewage, toxic dumps, pesticides, freeways, the loss of wilderness, and the extinction of wildlife. Now suddenly the groups realized they shared common values. By the end of that year, the first Earth Day had led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

Environmental conservation has made major advancements throughout history. While its focus during the 1940s was very limited due to World War II, the effects of the war and industrialization led to the environmental deterioration and many significant events that increased the public’s attention on pollution. While many minor policies were passed as a way to appease the people, the major shift for environmentalism was during the 1960s after many pieces of writing were published that exposed the harmful effects of pollution and toxins that were contaminating the earth. The public’s outrage toward the government 's lack of involvement led to major legislations to be passed and a noticeable shift in importance to the government. While environmental policies were generally weak and unable to be consistently enforced from 1940-2000, a series of focused legislative acts led to a change in the standardization of working conditions through safety and health regulations and accountability of nationally funded programs on conservation of the environment.

Life is composed of cells. Nature and cells are huge parts of life. As a result, the United States government has made trying to save the Earth a priority. It is the job of the Department of the Interior to “manage America's vast natural and cultural resources.” The purpose of the Department of the Interior is to make sure that America’s natural and cultural resources are kept in check. Numerous issues but primarily the environment fall under the jurisdiction of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). According to their website, the EPA was established on December 2, 1970 in order to consolidate several areas of government control concerned with protecting the environment. (n.d.) One of the major topics the EPA has addressed was the impact of the automobile industry on the environment. In the 1970’s several hearings occurred that called Automobile manufacturers to give an account to the measures they were taking to reduce pollution from the emissions given off by their products.
