As a First Class Degree graduate in Social Sciences I feel that I am suitable for this role as not only did I achieve such a prestigious qualification I undertook several modules at university which link in to this occupation. I undertook the Crime, Criminology and Justice System module in my honours year and obtained an “A” in the outcome, I found the lectures extremely fascinating and it allowed me to deepen my understanding of crime prevention and community safety tactics. This module further developed my knowledge and understanding regarding the criminal justice system as I critically evaluated and assessed theories in relation to the different offending groups. Moreover, I have always been fascinated with the criminal justice system and I feel that the clerical position is a stepping stone for me to progress within Police Scotland.
I knew that I wanted a role within Police Scotland once I wrote about it as a stakeholder within my Criminology assignment at University which I got an “A” for. I spent several days searching through databases to understand the effectiveness and functions of it within the criminal justice system. Thus I feel that the clerical position is suitable for me as it will enable me to play a key role within Police Scotland whereby, I will be assisting in maintaining public support.
In addition, I feel that I am suitable for this role as I have proven my trust to my current brand as I generally work by myself in Debenhams and represent the Wallis
Careers based around criminology play an essential part in everyday society, both protecting and stabilising communities and all who reside in them, and over the past few years it has become apparent to me that this is a subject I find both intriguing and compelling. My interest in the subject first developed in late childhood when I became fascinated with programmes such as Scott and Bailey, which look at crime prevention and the effect crime has on society. After spending a week of work experience with the MOD police based at DSTL at Porton Down, my passion for working within this field developed further, leading to a desire to understand why criminals act the way they do. This is ultimately what has led me to apply for the Criminology course. My A levels have helped me to develop my essay writing and analytical ability, focusing on investigating theories and texts and drawing my own conclusions from them.
With each member obtaining their own function, and being unable to encroach on the duties of the others, this was employed in order to guarantee that, whilst politics had its place within the policing system, it would not be able to interfere with the professional duties of the police service and, most critically, ensured that no singular government agent would be able to control the police for the gain of others or of themselves. This Tripartite system is interlinked to the concept of ‘constabulary independence’. In the past, such ‘independence’ has allowed chief constables to direct their identifiable forces with considerable self-sufficiency, free from both accusations of political bias and bribery, with the risk of criminal charges being brought against them being very minimal. Over the past 20 years, many questions have been raised by police officers, politicians and the general public alike as to the effectiveness of these arrangements. As a consequence, there have been many attempts of major reform of the current procedures, with particular interest to the area of police governance (Home Office, 2001; Home Office, 2008; Home Office,
Routine activity theory states that for a crime to be committed, three important factors need to be present including: a motivated offender, an accessible target, and the absence of a capable guardian against a violation. Marcus Felson and Lawrence E. Cohen introduced the routine activity theory in 1979, where they believed that an individual who has these three characteristics gives them a greater possibility of committing a crime. Moreover, situational crime prevention is known as strategies of ways for preventing or reducing the opportunities for criminals to commit crimes that derive from the routines of an individual’s everyday life. Ronald V. Clarke introduced situational crime prevention theory in 1983, where he believed that removing the situation instead of removing the criminal could prevent crime. In this paper, I will be discussing what routine activity/situational crime prevention theory is, and apply two peer-reviewed articles from Google Scholar that test the routine activity/situational crime prevention theory by discussing what the authors are trying to figure out and discuss their findings, and lastly, tie the routine activity/situational crime prevention theory articles to our textbook in hopes to fully understand in depth what the theory encompasses.
Situational and social approaches to crime prevention are both proactive where they anticipate and prevent crime but are different in the way on how crime is prevented, each having their own strength and weaknesses. In this essay, I will briefly talk about what is crime prevention and how situational and social approaches are derived, followed by providing a critical comparison of situational and social approaches by first explaining what is situational and social approaches to crime prevention, the differences between the two approaches, their strength and weaknesses and lastly, to show understanding that besides situational and social approach, there are other approaches to crime prevention.

Our police started out as a part of the British law enforcement system, which was used to control convicts. Police used to operate under British law, however as our country evolved and through events such as the gold rush, the police force had to change to accommodate for the changed in the country. A crime-specific strategy is strategically targeting specific crimes and applying strategies that resolve the components of the crime or the crime itself. It is exactly as it is pronounced. According to chapter 7 of Police Crime Control Strategies, each strategy listed can connect to each other. Bait vehicles, for example, is a strategic operation to target criminals that steal automobiles. Bait vehicles catch are equipped with a GPS device and catches the attention of a criminal, so the vehicle can be traced for a number of reasons (Hoover, 2014). The operation may take a few minutes or days, depending on the totality of circumstances and precisely what investigators are needing in conjunction with their investigation. Surveillance is applied and consists of many officers or agents.

The history of a professional police service in England dates back to the creation of the Metropolitan Police in 1829 by the then Home Secretary Sir Robert Peel (Joyce, 2012), the City of Glasgow Police was the first professional force to be created in Britain in 1800 (Newburn, 2013). The Metropolitan Police force replaced the volunteers who had until then served in an unpaid capacity to perform police duties. The professional police service then served as a template on which to model other local police forces throughout England and Wales (Joyce, 2012). There are 41 provincial police forces outside London and two within London, the Metropolitan Police and the City of London Police, at its peak the total number of officers in England and Wales was over 143,000 in 2006 (Hale et
