Best Practice Recommendations

Best practices are recommended based off of reviews, interventions and policies with government, academic, health, public and community officials to increase public health care needs via evidence-based findings. Currently in health care, there is an emphasis on improving medical adherence and literacy, by the enhancement of health communication and social marketing materials. These methods will help to foster healthy behaviors, sustain cessation of unhealthy ones, and increase awareness involving disease and injury. The following are a set of recommendations currently being used, to improve health communication:

Because of language barriers, cultural barriers, and limited literacy, visual aids, such as pictures can help deliver health information. Many patients get confused in the numeracy aspect of health care. They pay attention too much attention to one part of a set of number/ratio(s), and much information is lost, making it difficult to make appropriate health decisions. This is known as a term referred to as “denominator neglect.” Visual aids help to reinforce material, rather than distract from the material itself. In addition to being consciousness of different barriers. Not only must the delivery be presented and made available to patients upon initial visits, follow-up should be done as well. Many people struggle taking information in, and lose it by the time they get home, have more questions but are afraid to ask, are pressured for time constraints, or simply just lack access in general. If information is delivered effectively, all bases should be covered before, during and after receiving care and information to prevent worsening conditions.
Improve Internet Tools. Internet tools need to be improved, to cater to those who rely on the world web. While many sites are updated annually, all of the information doesn’t cater to those with low reading levels, different backgrounds, or age groups. Websites should incorporate clear and plain information. If medical terms are needed there should be links, examples or visuals aid to make things more clear. Visual aids should also be used throughout websites period because they are useful for seniors as well. Pictures can help trigger things in seniors with memory/cognitive
