The way in which one tuning fork’s vibration can cause another tuning fork to vibrate.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
When a vibrating source creates vibration in another system with higher amplitude it is called resonance.
If one tuning fork vibrates it will cause vibration or disturbance in the surrounding air molecule and thus the vibration will reach to another fork. The second fork will absorb the energy from air molecule and it will start vibrating.
The amplitude of vibration of both the forks will be greater if the natural frequency of both forks is same.
Conclusion:
Thus, the first fork will cause vibration in another fork with greater amplitude if the natural frequency of both forks were same.
