Explanation of Solution

Given: One positive integer is $17$ more than the second integer. If the sum of the first and the twice of second integer is $152$

Let $x$ be the first integer and $y$ be the second integer

According to the given data

The equation becomes

  $\begin{array}{l}x=y+17\\ x+2y=152\end{array}$

Put $x=y+17$ in equation $(ii)$

  $\begin{array}{l}x+2y=152\\ y+17+2y=152\\ 3y=135\\ y=45\end{array}$

Substitute $y=45$ in equation $(i)$

  $\begin{array}{l}x=y+17\\ x=45+17\\ x=62\end{array}$

Hence, $(x,y)=(62,45)$
