Given information

A 60 m pole is cut into two parts in the ration of 11: 4

Formula used If the pole of Z units is cut into two parts in the ration of x: y , then measure of:

One part will be given by $\frac{x}{x+y}\times Z$ and

Other part will be given by $\frac{y}{x+y}\times Z$

Calculation:The pole is cut in the ratio

  $x:y=11:4$

Therefore, $x=11\&y=4$

Longer part of the pole

  $\begin{array}{l}=\frac{11}{11+4}\times 60\\ =\frac{11}{15}\times 60\\ =44\text{ m}\end{array}$

Shorter part of the pole

  $\begin{array}{l}=\frac{7}{11+4}\times 60\\ =\frac{7}{15}\times 60\\ =28\text{ m}\end{array}$

Then,

Difference of their measures = 44 − 28 = 16 m

Hence, Longer part of the pole is 16 m longer than shorter part of the pole
