Program Plan Intro

Program plan:

Student.java

  • Create a class named “Student”.
    • Declare a String variable “name”.
    • Declare a double variable “totalGrade”.
    • Declare an integer variable “numberOfGrades”.
    • Create a constructor named “Student” with one argument.
      • Assign the value of the variable “name” into the variable “this.name”.
      • Assign the value “0” into the variable named “totalGrade”.
      • Assign the value “0” into the variable named “numberOfGrades”.
    • Define a function named “addGrade”.
      • The value “grade.getNumericValue()” is added with “totalGrade” and store the value into variable “totalGrade”.
      • Next, increment the “numberOfGrades” by one.
    • Define a function named “getGPA”.
      • Using “if” statement, check whether “numberOfGrades” is greater than “0” or not.
        • If true, then divide the “totalGrade” by “numberOfGrades” and return the result of Students GPA.
        • Return zero.

Grade.java

  • Create a class named “Grade”.
    • Declare a String variable “grade”.
    • Create a constructor named “Grade” with one argument.
      • Assign the value of the variable “gradeAsString” into the variable “grade”.
    • Define a function named “getNumericValue”.
      • Declare a double variable named “numericGrade”.
      • Using “if” statement, check whether the first character of the “grade” is 'A' or not.
        • If true, then assign the value '4.0' into the variable named “numericGrade”.
          • Using “Else if” statement, check whether the first character of the “grade” is 'B' or not.
            • If true, then assign the value '3.0' into the variable named “numericGrade”.
          • Using “Else if” statement, check whether the first character of the “grade” is 'C' or not.
            • If true, then assign the value '2.0' into the variable named “numericGrade”.
          • Using “Else if” statement, check whether the first character of the “grade” is 'D' or not.
            • If true, then assign the value '1.0' into the variable named “numericGrade”.
          • Else then assign the value '0.0' into the variable named “numericGrade”.
          • Using “if” statement, check whether the length of the grade is greater than '1' or not.
            • Using “if” statement, check whether the second character of the “grade” is '+' or not.
              • If true, then add the value '.3' with “numericGrade” and assign the value into “numericGrade”.
                • Using “if” statement, check whether the second character of the “grade” is '-' or not.
                  • If true, then subtract the value '.3' with “numericGrade” and assign the value into “numericGrade”.
          • Return the result of “numericGrade”.

StudentTest.java

  • Create a class named “StudentTest”.
    • Create a main function.
      • Create an object named “s” of class “Student”.
      • Create an object named “g” of class “grade”.
      • Make a call to the function “addGrade” of “s” object and pass the parameter “g”.
      • Make a call to the function “s.getName()” and “s.getGPA()” and display the current GPA of students using “print” statements.
