Assume a cyclist of weight mg can exert a force on the pedals equal to 0.90 mg on the average. If the pedals rotate in a circle of radius 18 cm, the wheels have a radius of 34 cm, and the front and hack sprockets on which the chain runs have 42 and 19 teeth respectively (Fig. 7–31), determine the maximum steepness of hill the cyclist can climb at constant speed. Assume the mass of the bike is 12 kg and that of the rider is 65 kg. Ignore friction. Assume the cyclist’s average force is always: (a) downward; (b) tangential to pedal motion.

- The maximum limiting friction between a shoe and the track has been calculated to be 500 N. If a motive force of 560 N is applied to the shoe when it is at rest on the track, the magnitude of the friction present will bearrow_forward(II) A sled is initially given a shove up a frictionless 23.0°incline. It reaches a maximum vertical height 1.22 m higherthan where it started at the bottom. What was its initial speed?arrow_forwardA frictionless incline is 5.00 m long (the distance from the top of the incline to the bottom, measured along the incline). The vertical distance from the top of the incline to the bottom is 2.26 m. A small block is released from rest at the top of the incline and slides down the incline. - A softball having a mass of 0.25 kg is pitched horizontally at 120 km/h By the time it reaches the plate, it may have slowed by 10%. Neglecting gravity, estimate the average force of air resistance during a pitch. The distance between the plate and the pitcher is about 15 m.arrow_forward13–90. The 40-kg boy is sliding down the smooth spiral slide such that z = -2 m/s and his speed is 2 m/s. Determine the r, 0, z components of force the slide exerts on him at this instant. Neglect the size of the boy. r = 1.5 marrow_forwardHang the spring balance on the right side of the lever at the 10 mark and pull the spring balance so that the lever comes into a horizontal position. (ii) Read the indicated value of force meter and record it in Table 1 on the Results page. (iv) Move the load successively to the 8, 6, 4 and 2 marks on the left side and measure the force for each position and record it in Table 1 on the Results page. Question – 1: Using the mass m, calculate the load (force) and record it above the table – 1. Question – 2: From the distance between the marks used (2 cm each), calculate the length of the load arm di and the force arm di in cm and add these values to the result tables. Question – 3: Calculate the products L × di und F x dh and record these values in the result tables. - In three trials, a block is pushed by a horizontal applied force across a floor that is not friction- less, as in Fig. 8-13a. The magni- tudes Fof the applied force and the results of the pushing on the block's speed are given in the table.
