To find the average speed for the last third of the trip of Maria.

Answer to Problem 18P
The average speed of the last 80% of her trip was 96 km/hr
Explanation of Solution
Formula:
Given that the averaged 40 km/hr for the first 20% of a trip and 75 km/hr for the whole trip.
Formula:
time=distancespeed
Let total distance be x and remaining 80% speed be y(km/hr)
First, determine the total time 20% distance covered with speed 40 km/hr
time=distanceSpeed⇒20%×x(km)40(km/hr=(20100)x40=x200(hr)...............(i)
Now, determine the total time of remaining 80% distance covered with speed y(km/hr)
time=distanceSpeed⇒80%×x(km)y(km/hr=80x100y=8x10y(hr)...............(ii)
Finally determine the time for total distance travelled be x with the speed of 75 km/hr
time=distanceSpeed⇒x(km)75(km/hr=x75(hr)...............(iii)
Now, Add equation ( i ) and equation ( ii ) and compare with equation (iii)
x200+8x100y=x75cancle the x1200+810y=175810y=175−1200110y=200−75200×75810y=125200×75y=20×75×8125=5×8×3=96km/hr
Hence, The average speed of the last third of the trip is 96 km/hr

- You are provided with three 2D data points, p1, p2 and p3. Solving A C = B for C provides youwith the coefficients of a natural cubic spline curve that interpolates these points.Additionally, you have been given A and B, but some elements are missing. Moreover, the last two rowsof A are entirely absent. Your task is to determine and fill in the missing elements. For the last two rows,enforce a zero tangent at the beginning (in p1) and a not-a-knot boundary condition in p2. The matricesA and B are given as follows:Explain how to find the entries of A and B .
