Chapter 5, Problem 5.30P

Consider a composite material made up of two species: having number densities N1 and N2 molecule s/m3, respectively. The two materials are uniformly mixed, yielding a total number density of N = N1 +N2- The presence of an electric field E induces molecular dipole moments p1 and p2 within the individual species, whether mixed or not. Show that the dielectric constant of the composite material is given by ε r = f ε r 1 + ( 1 f ) ε r 2 , where f is the number fraction of species 1 dipoles in the composite, and where ε r 1 and ε r 2 are the dielectric constants that the unmixed species would have if each had number density N.

A parallel-plate capacitor using a dielectric material having an Pr of 2.2 has a plate spacing of 2 mm (0.08 in.). If another material having a dielectric constant of 3.7 is used and the capacitance is to be unchanged, what must the new spacing be between the plates?
Determine the transition temperature and critical field at 4.2K for a given specimen of a superconductor if the critical fields are 1.41times10^(5) and 4.205times10^(5) amp/m at 14.1K and 12.9K respectively. how you conclude that the all superconductors are diamagnetic but all diamagnetic materials are not superconductors.
