Introduction:

Biodiversity is the variety of life in an area that is determined by the number of different species in that area. Biodiversity increase the stability of an ecosystem and contributes to the health of biosphere. Ecosystem diversity refers to the variety of ecosystems that are present in the biosphere.

Explanation of Solution

Biodiversity plays a major role as it provides many services either directly or indirectly. These include the following services which are provided by ecosystem indirectly;

• Replenishing of oxygen through photosynthesis
• Pollination through bees, birds, insects and bats
• Regulation of global climate
• Control of floods and soil erosion
• Nutrient cycling
• Microbial waste treatment
• Biological control of pests
