Chapter 44, Problem 6SA
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

The ozone layer prevents the harmful solar ultraviolet radiation, which causes skin cancer and cataracts, decreased agricultural productivity, and interruption of marine ecosystems. Destruction of the ozone layer is caused by chemicals such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and other “halogenated ozone depleting substances” (ODS). Montreal Protocol effectively banned all ozone-depleting substances, including CFCs and halons.
