What are sunspots?
The definition of sunspot.
Answer to Problem 7RQ
The region of lower temperature of photosphere that appears darker than other region of the photosphere is the sunspot.
Explanation of Solution
The Sun's temperature on the surface is very less than the temperature at the core but enough to generate a high amount of light. The surface at which light generates is called the photosphere. The photosphere is a very deep part.
There are some regions in the photosphere on which the temperature is very low that other region of the photosphere. The region of lower temperature appears dark compared to a region of high temperature. This dark region of the photosphere is called sunspot. The sunspots are caused due to the magnetic field of the Sun.
Conclusion:
Therefore, the region of lower temperature of photosphere that appears darker than other region of the photosphere is the sunspot.
