Summary Introduction

Tetanus also called “lockjaw” is a serious life-threatening condition observed in infected individuals. It is caused by the bacterium “Clostridium tetani” which is also responsible for causing gangrene and botulism. Although tetanus can be prevented with the help of immunization, still it leads to high mortality rate in certain countries like Africa and South-east Asia. The condition which leads to the depletion of body tissues is termed as gangrene.
