Assign costs to units transferred out and in process. (LO 5), AP
Pix Company has the following production data for March: no beginning work in process, units started and completed 30.000. and ending work in process 5,000 units that are 100% complete for materials and 40% complete for conversion costs. Pix uses the FIFO method to compute equivalent units. If unit materials cost is $6 and unit conversion cost is $10, determine the costs to be assigned to the units transferred out and the units in ending work in process. The total costs to be assigned are $530,000.

- The following product costs are available for Kellee Company on the production of eyeglass frames: direct materials, $32,125; direct labor, $23.50; manufacturing overhead, applied at 225% of direct labor cost; selling expenses, $22,225; and administrative expenses, $31,125. The direct labor hours worked for the month are 3,200 hours. A. What are the prime costs? B. What are the conversion costs? C. What is the total product cost? D. What is the total period cost? E. If 6.425 equivalent units are produced, what is the equivalent material cost per unit? F. What is the equivalent conversion cost per unit?arrow_forwardVexar manufactures nails. Manufacturing is a one-step process where the nails are forged. This is the information related to this years production: Ă‚ Ending inventory was 100% complete as to materials and 70% complete as to conversion, and the total materials cost is $115,080 and the total conversion cost is $72,072. Using the weighted-average method, what are the unit costs if the company transferred out 34,000 units? Using the weighted-average method, prepare the companys process cost summary for the month.arrow_forwardDuring the week of August 21, Parley Manufacturing produced and shipped 4,000 units of its machine tools: 1,500 units of Tool SK1 and 2,500 units of Tool SK3. The cycle time for SK1 is 0.73 hour, and the cycle time for SK3 is 0.56 hour. The following costs were incurred: Required: 1. Assume that the value-stream costs and total units shipped apply only to one model (a single-product value stream). Calculate the unit cost, and comment on its accuracy. 2. Assume that Tool SK1 is responsible for 60% of the materials cost. Calculate the unit cost for Tool SK 1 and Tool SK3, and comment on its accuracy. Explain the rationale for using units shipped instead of units produced in the calculation. 3. Calculate the unit cost for the two models, using DBC. Explain when and why this cost is more accurate than the unit cost calculated in Requirement 2.arrow_forward
- Ardt-Barger has a beginning work in process inventory of 5.500 units and transferred in 25,000 units before ending the month with 3.000 u flits that were 100% complete with regard to materials and 80% complete with regard to conversion costs. The cost per unit of material is $5.45, and the cost per unit for conversion is $6.20 per unit, Using the weighted-average method, prepare the companys process cost summary for the month.arrow_forwardRocks Industries has two products. They manufactured 12,539 units of product A and 8.254 units of product B. The data are: Ă‚ What is the activity rate for each cost pool?arrow_forwardMedical Tape makes two products: Generic and Label. It estimates it will produce 423,694 units of Generic and 652,200 of Label, and the overhead for each of its cost pools is as follows: It has also estimated the activities for each cost driver as follows: How much is the overhead allocated to each unit of Generic and Label?arrow_forward
- The standard cost summary for the most popular product of Phenom Products Co. is shown as follows, together with production and cost data for the period. One gallon each of liquid lead and varnish are added at the start of processing. The balance of the materials is added when the process is two-thirds complete. Labor and overhead are added evenly throughout the process. There were no units in process at the beginning of the month. Required: Calculate equivalent production for materials, labor, and overhead. (Be sure to refer to the standard cost summary to help determine the percentage of materials in ending work in process.) Calculate materials and labor variances and indicate whether they are favorable or unfavorable, using the diagram format shown in Figure 8-4. Determine the cost of materials and labor in the work in process account at the end of the month.arrow_forwardEllerson Company provided the following information for the last calendar year: During the year, direct materials purchases amounted to 278,000, direct labor cost was 189,000, and overhead cost was 523,000. During the year, 100,000 units were completed. Required: 1. Calculate the total cost of direct materials used in production. 2. Calculate the cost of goods manufactured. Calculate the unit manufacturing cost. 3. Of the unit manufacturing cost calculated in Requirement 2, 2.70 is direct materials and 5.30 is overhead. What is the prime cost per unit? Conversion cost per unit?arrow_forwardRex Industries has two products. They manufactured 12,539 units of product A and 8.254 units of product B. The data are: What is the activity rate for each cost pool?arrow_forward
- Using the same data found in Exercise 6.22, assume the company uses the FIFO method. Required: Prepare a schedule of equivalent units, and compute the unit cost for the month of December. Fordman Company has a product that passes through two processes: Grinding and Polishing. During December, the Grinding Department transferred 20,000 units to the Polishing Department. The cost of the units transferred into the second department was 40,000. Direct materials are added uniformly in the second process. Units are measured the same way in both departments. The second department (Polishing) had the following physical flow schedule for December: Costs in beginning work in process for the Polishing Department were direct materials, 5,000; conversion costs, 6,000; and transferred in, 8,000. Costs added during the month: direct materials, 32,000; conversion costs, 50,000; and transferred in, 40,000.arrow_forwardA company is using process costing with the first-in, first-out (FIFO) method, and all costs are added evenly throughout the manufacturing process. If there are 5,000 units in beginning work in process inventory (30% complete), 10,000 units in ending work in process inventory (60% complete), and 25,000 units started in process this period, how many equivalent units are there for this period? a. 22,500 units. b. 26,000 units. c. 24,500 units. d. 25,000 units.arrow_forwardBox Springs. Inc., makes two sizes of box springs: queen and king. The direct material for the queen is $35 per unit and $55 is used in direct labor, while the direct material for the king is $55 per unit, and the labor cost is $70 per unit. Box Springs estimates it will make 4,300 queens and 3,000 kings in the next year. It estimates the overhead for each cost pool and cost driver activities as follows: How much does each unit cost to manufacture?arrow_forward
