Consider the equations:
2x−3y=5 …… (1)
x=4y+5 …… (2)
Substitute x=4y+5 in equation (1).
2(4y+5)−3y=58y+10−3y=55y=−5y=−1
Therefore, the value of variable y is −1.
Substitute y=−1 in equation (1).
2x−3(−1)=52x+3=52x=2x=1
Therefore the value of variable x is 1.
Hence, the solution to the equations is x=1 and y=−1.
As seen from the example above the solution is an ordered pair having a value of (1,−1) representing both variables (x,y).
