To explain: The difference between cohesion and adhesion.
Concept introduction:
The ascent of sap is defined as the upward movement of water from root to aerial part of the plant. The movement occurs through xylem against the gravitational force. Cohesion is the attraction between two similar molecules such as water to water molecule and adhesion is the attraction between the water molecules to the hydrophilic walls of the tracheary elements.
