To explain: The reason why RNAi would be a less-efficient mechanism for the expression of specific genes if Dicer hydrolyzes the double-stranded RNA for every 11 bp rather than for every 22 bp.
Introduction: RNA interference (RNAi) is the pathway that is involved in the sequence of specific post-transcriptional gene regulation. After the initial processing of pre-miRNAs in the nucleus, it is transported into the cytoplasm. Here, Dicer cleaves and generates microRNAs (miRNAs) and short-interfering RNAs (siRNAs). These double-stranded RNA products are associated with the Argonaute proteins. It is done such that one strand is chosen to guide the sequence-specific silencing of the complementary target mRNAs.
