Endocrine system is part of maintenance of the homeostasis. The endocrine system is made of several organs that are ductless glands. They secrete ligands called hormones that travel through the blood stream to reach their target cells. The hypothalamus secretes several hormones that activate the pituitary glands. The pituitary glands in turn secrete hormones that activate other endocrine organs to secrete hormones for gene regulation of target cells.
