Concept explainers
To define:
The term phylogeny.
Introduction:
The change in characteristics of a species over various generations is termed as the evolution. It is based on the process of natural selection. The theory of evolution says that all species are related to each other and their characteristics change over time.
Explanation of Solution
The relationship between different group of organisms and their development during evolution is termed as phylogeny. The main motive of phylogeny is to know the evolutionary history of all the living beings. The hypothesis it is based on is that all living beings have a common ancestor. Phylogenetic tree is used to determine the relationship between various organisms.
