Concept explainers
The arts communities in 230 cities across the country were rated according to whether or not they have an art museum, a symphony orchestra, and a ballet company. There are 119 cities with an art museum; 20 of those also have ballet but no orchestra, and 41 have an orchestra but no ballet; 30 have neither. Of the 75 cities with a ballet company, 10 have an orchestra as well, but lack an art museum. Twenty-two cities have only an orchestra.
- (a) What percentage of the cities has an orchestra?
- (b) How many more cities are there with none of these three than with all of them?
- (c) If you pick a city at random from this list to travel to and really want to go either to an art museum or an orchestral concert, what is the percent chance that you’ll end up disappointed?
