The neurotransmitter which acts as nicotine.
Answer to Problem 15RQ
The neurotransmitter acetylcholine and nicotine have the similar chemical structure and they work same.
Explanation of Solution
Due to similar chemical structures, Both nicotine and the neurotransmitter acetylcholine work on maintenance neurons. Due to similar structures, nicotine molecules easily attach with acetylcholine receptor sites and affect many organs and muscles as neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Due to continuous binding with receptor sites, nicotine blocks the sites and reduces the activity of maintenance neurons which also affects the stress neurons activity causes increased blood pressure and heart rate because both neurons (stress and maintenance neurons) are always working.
Acetylcholine neurotransmitter when binds with its receptor-sites, increases digestion, muscle contraction, relaxation. All experiences occur with smokers after smoking.
Conclusion:
Therefore, neurotransmitter acetylcholine act as nicotine mimic.
