Summary Introduction

To explain: How the differences of sexual selection in strawberry poison dart frogs (Dendrobates pumilio) could arise and affect the evolution of reproductive isolation in allopatric versus sympatric populations.

Concept introduction:

Strawberry poison-dart frogs (Dendrobates pumilio) are found in Central America mainly in the Costa Rica and adjacent mainland of Panama. Pumiliotoxin which is the main toxin in these frogs is due to their dietary intake of formicine ants. These frogs exhibit an amazing array of color variation which is considered to be the basis of intraspecific male mating calls which lead to ultimately fall the entire population into one species.

I need help identifying which assumption of Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium is most affected, then indicating whether what is being described will act to establish or violate equilibrium, and lastly, whether the statement will increase or decrease that population’s genetic variation. Corals synchronize spawning to occur on a single night during a particular tidal event, such as a spring tide. On that night individuals release sperm and eggs into the water, which then form zygotes. Larvae are carried off by currents and settle elsewhere. What assumption is this breeding style affecting and what will it do to VG of that coral species?
6a. Fill in the table below with the expected characteristics of r vs K selected species. r-selected species K-selected species Timing of maturation Longevity Parental care Number of offspring Size of offspring 6b. Based on your table, would a species that provides long-term parental care and has few offspring be considered an r-selected or K-selected species? What is an example of such a species? 6c. Why is long-term parental care associated with having few offspring during a reproductive episode?
