Interpretation:
Voltaic cell needs to be defined.
Concept introduction:
A device having capacity to generate energy (electrical) from chemical reaction or use electrical energy to result
Answer to Problem 102A
From chemical reactions electrical energy is produced in voltaic cell.
Explanation of Solution
An electrochemical cell that produces electricity from chemical reactions is termed as voltaic cell. In an electrochemical cell, two half cells are present which are connected by a salt bridge. In each cell there is an electrode present. Current flows between these two electrodes. One electrode is known as cathode and another is known as anode.
In electrolytic cell, electrical energy is used to result chemical reactions.

- For the single step reaction: A + B → 2C + 25 kJ If the activation energy for this reaction is 35.8 kJ, sketch an energy vs. reaction coordinate diagram for this reaction. Be sure to label the following on your diagram: each of the axes, reactant compounds and product compounds, enthalpy of reaction, activation energy of the forward reaction with the correct value, activation energy of the backwards reaction with the correct value and the transition state. In the same sketch you drew, after the addition of a homogeneous catalyst, show how it would change the graph.
