Chapter 22, Problem 53P

The fan has a mass of 25 kg and is fixed to the end of a horizontal beam that has a negligible mass. The fan blade is mounted eccentrically on the shaft such that it is equivalent to an unbalanced 3.5-kg mass located 100 mm from the axis of rotation. If the static deflection of the beam is 50 mm as a result of the weight of the fan, determine the angular velocity of the fan blade at which resonance will occur. Hint See the first part of Example 22.8.

Students have asked these similar questions
A spring has a stiffness of 600 N/m, if a 4 kg block is attached to the spring, pushed 500 mm above its equilibrium position, and released from rest; determine the angular frequency. Assume the positive displacement is measured downward
The rigid weightless rod is restrained to oscillate in a vertical plane. Determine the natural frequency of the mass m. Use the Energy method
If both springs are usntretched when the mass is in the central position shown, determine the static deflection of the mass. What is the period of oscillatory motion about the position of static equilibrium? The mass m = 3.4, the spring constant k = 295 N/m, and the angle theta = 31 degrees
