Concept explainers
(a)
Cemented carbide cutting inserts are use in a production milling operation for removing the significant quantity of metal from a steel sand casting. This roughing operation is taken out at low cutting speed and high depth and feed, and no cutting fluid is utilized. The problem is the inserts wear out rapidly, and the foreman believes that a semi chemical fluid should be used to reduce cutting temperature. Analyze the problem here.
