Concept explainers
To define:
The given term “adaptation” using a book or a dictionary
Introduction: Vascular seed plants are the most widely distributed plants on this planet. Seed plants have a variety of adaptations for the dispersal of their seeds throughout their environments. Dispersal is important as it prevents competition between new plants and parent plants.
Answer to Problem 2MI
An adaptation is an inherited characteristic that results from changes to species over time.
Explanation of Solution
An adaptation is a trait shaped by natural selection that increases an organism’s reproductive success by increasing its chance of survival.
A seed plant does not need water for sperm to reach an egg like the nonvascular plants and vascular seedless plants. This adaptation helps the seed plants to survive in different environments including areas where water is scarce.
