Concept explainers
To determine:
Definition of the terms, cotyledon, cone, annual, biennial, and perennial.
Explanation of Solution
Cotyledons are a part of an embryo that is present in a seed. These are the parts of the seed that help in nourishing the developing embryo initially and become the first leaf of a developing plant.
Cone or strobilus is a mass of reproductive structure in some non-flowering plants. These are present in two separate sexes; male cones contain pollen and are smaller than female gametophyte.
Annual means occurring once in a year. The plants that reproduce annually, produce their mature reproductive structure once in a year.
Biennial means occurring twice in a year. The plants that reproduce biennially, produce their mature reproductive structure twice in a year.
Perennial plants are those plants that live more than two years, and most of them are small flowering plants.
