Chapter 21, Problem 18BS
Summary Introduction
To provide: A mock script with questions and responses interviewing different experts as to why the woman died after drinking 6 liters of water in 3 hours.
Concept introduction: Homeostasis is a process of maintaining the body condition, where the internal environment is maintained in a constant state even if there is a significant change in the external environment. The body has several mechanisms to maintain the homeostasis. One important system is maintaining a threshold level for all molecules in the body. Similarly, a threshold level of water has to be maintained in the body. Concentration of water beyond this threshold level can lead to adverse effects.
