Deserts have sandy that is fast-draining soil with little topsoil. These are formed around 30° north and south latitudes, where rain fall is rare and falls seasonally. A desert is a scarcity of moisture that experiences less than 25 centimeters of precipitation annually, yet not high temperature. Tropical rain forest is the oldest existing biome that experiences 200 to 1000 centimeters of precipitation annually.
