The reason why there are two reversals of direction of current for one rotation.
Answer to Problem 1CQ
There are two reversals of direction of current for one rotation since the flux reaches the maximum positive value and maximum negative value during one rotation.
Explanation of Solution
With the rotation of the loop, the associated magnetic flux increases. The flux approaches its maximum positive value when the loop is perpendicular to the field and after that the flux starts to decrease as the loop becomes parallel to the magnetic field. The induced current reverses its direction as the loop turns through the maximum position and the flux changes from increasing to decreasing. This is because of the reversal in the sign of the change the induced current opposes.
Then the loop continues to rotate. When the loop becomes once again perpendicular to the field but facing the opposite way, the flux reaches its maximum negative value. At this position the flux changes from decreasing to increasing. Due to the reversal in the sign of the change the induced current opposes, the current again reverses its direction. Thus the induced current reverses its direction twice per rotation.
