Interpretation: The invisibility of atoms through naked eye needs to be explained.

Concept introduction: Atoms are the basic units of matter and the defining structure of elements. Atoms consist of a nucleus made of protons and neutrons orbited by electrons.

Answer to Problem 2A

Due to small size of atom, it cannot be seen by naked eyes.

Explanation of Solution

Atoms generally have a diameter of about 0.1 to 0.3 nm ( $1\text{nm}={10}^{-9}\text{m}$ ). Our eyes can’t resolve any thing which is below about a tenth of millimeter ( $1\text{mm}={10}^{-3}\text{m}$ ). One can’t see an atom even with most powerful microscope.

Conclusion

Thus, due to small size of atom, it cannot be seen by naked eyes.
