Chapter 2, Problem 2.8NP
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:The work done for an adiabatic expansion of an ideal gas with number of moles 2.50 mol, initial pressure 2.25 bar, initial and final temperature 450 K and 300 K respectively needs to be determined. The expression for the work done in the isothermal reversible expansion of gas needs to be written at initial pressure 2.25 bar and the value of pressure for the same value of w calculated above needs to be determined.

Concept Introduction: In thermodynamics, a reversible process can be defined as the process which can be reversed back to its original state.

Hence in reversible processes, both the system and surroundings are returned to their initial states. In general, all reversible processes are ideal processes and cannot occur naturally.

On the contrary, an irreversible process cannot come back to its initial condition. All spontaneous processes in nature are irreversible processes.

In an adiabatic process, the heat change is zero therefore the work done will be equal to the change in the internal energy.
