Interpretation:
The optimum pH to separate a mixture of arginine, lysine and cysteine should be explained and structures of these three amino acids should be drawn indicating the net charge at the chosen pH along with the direction of migration and relative stability in the electric field.
Concept Introduction:
Electrophoresis exploits the difference between the isoelectric points to separate amino acids. Two electrodes are placed in contact with the edges of gel, and a potential of high volts is applied across the electrodes. At an isoelectric point, amino acids stops moving as it has no net charge.
