Interpretation:

On the basis of quantum numbers, the number of electrons present in the 3d energy level of an atom of element needs to be determined, if the atomic number of the element is 27 and it has a valence of 2.

Concept introduction:

Each electron has four quantum numbers which are principal quantum number (n), azimuthal quantum number (l), magnetic quantum number (m) and spin quantum number (s).

For any value of principal quantum number say n. The possible values of azimuthal quantum number will be 0, 1, 2, ....... n-1.

For value of azimuthal quantum number l, the values of magnetic quantum number, ml varies from -l to +l.

There are two possible values of spin quantum number, ms that is 1/2 and -1/2.
