Accounting Process:
Accounting process includes sequential form of transactions ending with closure of books and is conducted consecutively, so it is termed as accounting cycle also. The accounting process includes the following activities in the order given below:
- Referring the source documents for identification of the relevant transactions.
- Recording the identified transactions as journal entries.
Posting entries in specific ledger accounts.- The next step is at the closure of accounting period or reporting period where a trail balance of all the accounts by netting each of the debit and credit amounts to equalize their total values is done and preliminary
trial balance before any adjustments is made. - Some additional entries, also known as
adjusting entries for the transactions which could not be analyzed from the source document are then recorded and trial balance adjusted as final trial balance. - Preparing balance sheet by recording the final balances of each account and equalizing both sides of the balance sheet.
- The books are closed by recording relevant reverse entries to begin with new period of accounting.
