Answer to Problem 53R

According to the Le Chatelier’s principle, if the concentration of one of the reactants is increased then the frequency of the successive collision of that reactants also increased. This results in increase in the forward reaction. The pressure that exert on the gas molecules reduces the volume. So, the successive collision between the molecules is also increased. Hence, the reaction rate is affected.

Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

The rate of a chemical reaction represents the speed at which the reactants are changed into the product.

According to the Le Chatelier’s principle, if the concentration of one of the reactants is increased then the frequency of the successive collision of that reactants also increased. This results in increase in the forward reaction and products are formed. In the given photo, when the pressure is exerted on the gas molecules in the container the volume is decreased. Therefore, the successive collision between the molecules is also increased. Hence, the reaction rate is affected.

Conclusion:

Thus, the collision theory is summarized on the bases of the Le chatelier’s principle and the pressure effect is also described there.
