Interpretation:

The role of cofactor in the enzyme activity has to be determined.

Concept Introduction:

Certain enzymes require the presence of additional non-protein molecules called cofactors. These may be in the form of metal ions, organometallic compounds or other organic molecules. The enzyme for without its cofactor is termed an apoenzyme.

There are two major categories of cofactors namely the inorganic metal ions and the organic cofactors such as flavin adenine dinucleotide, heme and ${\text{NAD}}^{+}$. The organic cofactor can be further classified into coenzymes and prosthetic groups.
