Why is treated water sprayed into the air prior to being piped to users?
The reason for spraying treated water into the air prior to being piped to users
Answer to Problem 18RQ
It is done in order to improve the odour and flavour of the treated water.
Explanation of Solution
In water treatment facilities, the treated water is aerated by the passing it through huge columns of air which improves the quality of water. Aeration removes many unpleasant – smelling chemical compounds such as sulphur compounds from water and also gives the water a better taste when air is dissolved in it, otherwise the taste of water remains flat.
Conclusion:
Therefore, in order to improve the odour and flavour of water, it is passed through air prior to being piped to users.
