The hypothesis which suggests that population cycles observed in snowshoe hares is caused by winter food shortage.
Introduction:
Snowshoe hare are one of the species of hare which is mainly present in the forest of the North America. The native species of snowshoe hare is Lepus americanus (snowshoe hare). The name snowshoe is due to the presence of large size hind limbs which help them from sinking into the snow and also help in running. The fur is also present onto their bodies which prevent them from the extreme low temperature. Snowshoe hares are mostly feed upon the grasses, leaves, ferns in summers, and in winters they feed the woody branches of the plants, flower buds, bark of the trees and so on.
The population of snowshoe hare is controlled by their main predator that is Canadian Lynx.
