Viruses are minute particles that are made up of only their genetic material which may be DNA or RNA and a protein coat. Viruses are mostly pathogenic. They are not free living, meaning they require the support of a host for their survival and nutrition.

Virus may be of different shapes. Based on shape, there are 4 types of virus.

  1. Helical (like Tobacco Mosaic Virus)
  2. Polyhedral (like Adenovirus)
  3. Spherical (like Influenza Virus)
  4. Complex (like Bacteriophage)
