Chapter 18, Problem 5SA
Summary Introduction
To review:
The use of both active and passive immunization for treating tetanus.
Introduction:
Tetanus is an infection caused by Clostridium tetani and is characterized by muscle spasm. Infection of tetanus can be prevented by proper immunization. Immunization is the process by which the immune system of the process becomes active and fortified against the pathogen. Immunization is of two types: active immunization in which live or attenuated antigen is given in the body that triggers the immune system to produce antibodies and the passive immunization in which the direct antibodies are given to the patients.
