Concept explainers
The effect on the image projected on the screen.
Answer to Problem 107A
The image will become dimmer.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
A lens is an optical device that disperses or focuses the light beam incident on it by the process of refraction. It is usually used to focus the light beam in order to form an image of the object under observation.
If right half of the lens is covered, only left half of the lens refracts the light rays coming from an object. The image is formed on other side of the lens. The image formed is found to be blurred. The reason behind this is that only half portion of the incident light beam gets converging but the full image is formed on the screen as the lens is covered through half of its refracting surface.
