Given info: Oxygen atoms are used to make water molecules.

The compounds are formed when one or more different elements combine.

When two different elements having their chemical and physical properties are combined through a chemical reaction a new set of products are formed having their new and unique chemical and physical properties.

Thus, when a reaction occurs between hydrogen and oxygen, they lose their chemical and physical properties and react together to form a water molecule which is having individually different properties from that of the reactant.
